The Chancellor has announced an extension of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) by four months to the end of October 2020 alongside a proposed relaxation of some of the scheme rules from August 2020.
The announcement confirmed
- CJRS to be extended by four months, to continue until the end of October 2020
- Furloughed employees will continue to receive 80% of their salaries, capped at £2,500 per month
- Flexibility measures will be introduced from 01 August 2020 to encourage employees back to work. Workers may be able to return part-time
- Employers will be requested to contribute to their wages costs by paying a percentage of their staff costs from August 2020
More details on how the changes to the rules will work are due to be announced by the end of May.
